LocationCharlottesville, VA Job DescriptionManages accounting functions, including cash receipts, payroll and accounts payable. Administers approved accounting policies and procedures throughout the YMCA. Ensures preparation of complete and accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Assists in the preparation of the operating budget. Qualifications1. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. 2. Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent. 3. Possess or working towards an Accounting Designation, such as Certified Management Accountant (preferred). 4. Understanding of and experience in GAAP are required. 5. Three to five years of experience in a similar-sized organization. 6. Experience in a nonprofit environment is preferred. 7. Knowledge of banks, banking systems and cash management. 8. Knowledge of and expertise with computerized accounting systems. 9. Ability to analytically review information for discrepancies. 10. Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and standard business software systems. Essential Functions1. Maintains the general ledger, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, grants management and general accounting areas. 2. Oversees biweekly payroll and serves as the primary contact for employees with payroll related questions. 3. Maintains an accounting system to accomplish the proper recording and reporting of all operations, transactions, assets and liabilities of the YMCA for all funds. 4. Serves as resource person to management and program personnel in all matters relating to accounting and accounts payable. 5. Prepares reconciliations of all YMCA bank accounts on a monthly basis. 6. Prepares financial statements required by management, the Board, and outside agencies. 7. Maintains records, and prepare various internal and external reports, including reports for various federal and state agencies. Prepares the IRS Form 990 tax return for review by the CEO and board. 8. Maintains records and prepares reports of reports. 9. Facilitates key functions such as annual independent audit. Develops and maintains key relationships, including with banks and insurers. 10. Serves as the primary point of contact for external audits. 11. Coordinates operating cash flow management. 12. Conducts special internal audits, accounting studies, analyses and cost studies as required. Provides recommendations. 13. Works closely with IT staff to ensure that computer and software systems provide accurate information and adequate internal controls.
