YMCAWilderness Trace Family YMCA LocationHarrodsburg, KY Job Description The Executive Director of the Wilderness Trace Family YMCA (“YMCA”) is hired by and reports directly to the Board of Directors. Experience in fiscal management through preparing and managing a budget while building and managing a staff team will be priority skills for the new Executive Director. In addition, short and long term strategic planning experience and the skills to take initiative, motivate, delegate and introduce, grow and sustain a strong membership revenue approach are also essential components for the preferred candidate. Organization goals will be met by ensuring that: realistic & ambitious funding goals are set, advocacy of the Y impact is promoted to the community as well as operational and financial plans are implemented in order to create high impact programs. It is essential the Executive Director convenes key community leaders, partners, funders, public, faith based, governmental and other nonprofits to help extend the organization's reach and continually highlight the leadership role of the Y. This is an outstanding opportunity for a passionate visionary with a successful track record in fund development, team leadership and operational excellence to play a critical role in community impact. Qualifications Minimum Criteria for Candidates: Accredited 4-year college degree. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and have personal values that are consistent with the YMCA mission. Minimum five years prior experience in a leadership role with the YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple staff and experience working with volunteers. Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships. Must have the ability to develop new programs and to review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and effectiveness in broadening our engagement with the communities in which we serve. Preferred Criteria for Candidates: YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (or obtain within 3 years of employment). Experience with developing a fiscally sound business management approach. Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns and grants. A proven track record of budgetary experience in excess of $500K. Experience in working with and inspiring volunteers. Essential Functions Strategic Vision and Advocacy for the Organization Experienced leader with evidence of creating a strong, foundational organizational plan, supported by staff and volunteers, and measured through growth and impact. The ability to serve as the face of the organization through the building of collaborative relationships, inspiring staff team leaders and working as a partner with an engaged and enthusiastic Board of Directors. The new Executive Director shall work to grow membership and programs, deepen a positive performance and collaborative culture and have a track record of charting a visible, higher impact course. Exceptional communicator who enables all to feel their opinions count; able to tailor a message to the audience at hand with equal respect, and to generate action, engagement and excitement. Entrepreneurial, resourceful, results-oriented and capable of managing multiple high profile projects simultaneously. Operational Effectiveness (including Fundraising, Membership and Program effectiveness) Proven leader capable of balancing the priorities related to effective internal operations and relationship building that leads to significant funding. Ensures that operating results established in the annual budget are achieved, the control of operating expenses are within budget, and the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of all financial accounting and reporting are accounted for. In addition, the new Executive Director must build and manage a strong staff team and strengthen the partnership with an active and engaged volunteer Board of Directors. Performance Goals and Expectations Within the first 18 months, the new Executive Director must be able to create a diversified and financially sound YMCA that strengthens the community through collaborative efforts to meet the needs of the families, from youth through seniors. The critical success factors would include transparency with the community, collaboration and partnerships with civic organizations and funding partners as well as the development of a balanced budget that includes new membership and program growth and an increase in fundraising efforts (donors, volunteers, impact measures and effective training of all staff and volunteers). The new leader will also continue to cultivate relationships and partnerships with all current and potentially new donors and will be the key spokesperson for the YMCA, frequently speaking at sponsored events and continually seeking new venues to raise the image, visibility and impact of the YMCA's work.
