YMCA of Stamford Facts: Staff: 10 full-time, including CEO; 65 part-time and 34 seasonal for total of 109. Volunteer Leadership: 19 Executive Board Members and 12 Junior Board Members. Membership: Total membership units of 1078; equals 2021 individual members. Membership includes: Adult, Family, Youth/Teen, College, and Senior. Annual Fundraising: 2016 - goal $750,000. Finances: 2016 annual operating budget: Revenues: $2,300,622. Qualifications Ideal Candidate Criteria: Accredited 4-year college degree (required). Passion for the YMCA mission. Demonstrated record of leading successful organizational change. Strong professional & personal network of potential large donors. Experience leading successful fundraising initiatives, including annual and capital campaigns. Excellent verbal & written skills. Minimum 10 years of prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or other organization of comparable complexity, with proven track record of effective fiscal management in excess of $1M annually, including efficient management of budgeting, P&L, programs & facilities. Experience leading and implementing a strategic plan. Ability to develop & strengthen community relationships and partner with other organizations. Effective board development & volunteer partnership skills. YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (Note: If not held, candidates have up to 3 years to obtain via YMCA-USA) Residency Expectations: Living in YMCA service area preferred. Essential Functions PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES & COMPETENCIES OF NEXT LEADER: The next CEO should be an inspirational, motivating and experienced leader who has the character, experience and background to enable him or her to successfully: Embrace & Lead Change: Recognize in the near-to-midterm, the Stamford Family YMCA needs to explore potential organizational enhancement alternatives that could include partnering with a neighboring YMCA organization. Lead Fundraising Efforts: Lead fundraising efforts by working with the board and staff to establish and execute a plan to increase donations and grant dollars for operations, facility needs, and expanded services to the community. Position the YMCA as a nonprofit of choice by instilling confidence, credibility, and trust in the organization with community leaders, partners, donors, and the general public. Advocate for the YMCA in the Community: Advocate for the YMCA's mission, goals, and values and be an inspiring spokesperson with a contagious effect on others. Create strategic and successful relationships with influential leaders, potential donors, members and organizations in the community with an eye to using those relationships to our mutual benefit. Improve Operating Performance, Emphasizing Strategic Partnerships, New Program Development and Membership Growth: Collaborate with neighboring YMCAs to share programming that can mutually benefit Stamford and adjacent communities. This may include bringing neighboring programming to Stamford, offering Stamford programming to YMCA members in other communities or sharing of management resources. These initiatives, in turn, can be the drivers of membership growth, outreach to potential new donors and strengthened overall financial performance. Build & Manage the Staff Team: Foster a culture that is true to the YMCA's Mission Statement, with integrity, high ethical standards, and values. Motivate, engage and develop the staff in a positive and productive manner. Live the Mission and lead by example; lead staff supervision, development and performance leading to superior results in programs, membership development/satisfaction and community participation. Lead in the Development & Implementation of a Strategic Plan: Assess, evaluate & achieve the existing strategies adopted by the board. Lead the organization to engage stakeholders to test the Board's vision for the Stamford YMCA. Be able to offer and articulate a compelling vision for the organization, how it affects the community and offer proposals for improving how the YMCA can bolster that vision.
