The YMCA of Greenville is a dynamic and rapidly growing mid-major Association made up of eight distinct branches within the greater Greenville, SC area. We are proud to be a community partner for the strengthening of Greenville's health, youth development, and families through wellness, program, and social responsibility initiatives.As the Controller, you will be charged with ensuring that our responsible financial stewardship results in community impact; our finance team does not just impact a bottom line, our work impacts people's lives and neighborhoods. The Controller will be a cause-driven and team-oriented leader overseeing internal financial controls including but not limited to: cash management, general ledger, AP staff and functions, the annual external audit, annual tax return completion, and the annual budget as well as financial analysis, reporting, and projections. Preferred applicants will have a Bachelor Degree in Accounting (CPA preferred), 3-5 years of progressive management experience in responsibilities listed above, and a minimum of two years of supervisory experience. Nonprofits are often stereotyped as relaxed and slow-paced in daily operations – we do not fit that mold. The best candidates will have experience in a year-round, rapid-paced environment that requires multi-tasking abilities, while demonstrating consistent accuracy and sound judgment. Qualifications Bachelor Degree in Accounting; a CPA license is preferred 3-5 years of demonstrated progressive financial management experience to include a minimum of three years of budget preparation, audit, financial analysis and reporting Minimum of two years supervisory experience Demonstrated ability to lead staff in financial Best Practices Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Effective interpersonal skills in order to provide excellent customer service while gathering, analyzing and providing information Very strong accuracy and attention to detail Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Advanced knowledge of merchant transactions Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and assignments Strong organizational and analytical skills Essential Functions Manages all functions of accounting and business operations, ensuring that legal and audit requirements are met and that best practices and maximum efficiencies are obtained. Responsible for the annual budget process, including issuing guidelines and procedures, training staff, overseeing data input and preparing reports and analysis. Leads the annual independent audit, the preparation of the audited financial statements and the IRS 990 tax return; this includes the preparation of required audit schedules. Implements appropriate systems and internal controls to adequately safeguard the YMCA's financial resources and to provide a solid basis for accurately reporting financial data. Responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions, which includes the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger information and safeguarding of the Association's fixed assets, as well as the month-end closing procedures and reporting of the Association's financial performance. Works closely with appropriate staff in analysis and communication of monthly budget results, including opportunities for revenue and expenditure improvement. Leads in the development and implementation of cash management practices; this includes the preparation of cash flow projections and development of procurement activities. Supervises staff performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payables, grant/contract administration, and budgeting functions. Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards. Provides direction and assistance to the Association regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures, as well as efficient control and utilization of financial resources. Supports the planning, development, and maintenance of financial reporting and accounting-related software systems. Other duties as assigned.
