Located in the western suburbs of Chicago, the Greater Joliet Area YMCA has served the community for nearly 90 years. With 450 full and part-time staff and an annual budget of $8.25 million, the Greater Joliet Area YMCA is growing and looking for a motivated, dynamic and team-driven professional to join its team as its next Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer. The association includes four branches and has plans for two capital campaigns on the horizon. Bachelor's degree in human services, business, social services or equivalent; Master's degree preferred. 2. Eight or more years of professional experience in the YMCA or another nonprofit preferred. 3. Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, successful membership practices, quality program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management and sound financial practices. 4. Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff. 5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others. 6. YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred. Essential Functions 1. Supervises all branch executive directors to assure sound operations. Provides leadership and direction to the branches by coaching branch executives and by providing overall direction to the branch boards and volunteers. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community. 2. Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled. 3. Ensures the operational growth of the YMCA through program expansion, member recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, new site development and collaborations. 4. Identifies potential areas for branch cooperative programming to accomplish YMCA goals, and works with staff groups to develop and implement programs. Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs and leads branch staff in the planning, development and implementation of new program initiatives and activities. 5. In conjunction with the Human Resources Director, responsible for performance management process for all staff including, but not limited to, performance evaluations, recruitment and staff training and development. 6. Oversees and develops goals and establishes work plans for the Program Cabinets. 7. In conjunction with the Human Resources Director, develop annual plan for quarterly FT staff meetings & trainings. 8. Leadsbi-weekly Ops team meetings. 9. Hospital partnership development and active role on necessary joint operating committees. 10. Monitors progress on strategic plan operating plan, update dashboards quarterly. 11. Leads strategic program development (medically based wellness programs). 12. Provides reports to committees, the Board of Directors and the President/CEO. 13. Provides staff leadership to assigned committees of the Board of Directors. 14. In conjunction with the Human Resources Director, coordinate, monitor and update Association program policies and guidelines as needed. 15. Implements and oversees a program evaluation system to guarantee faithfulness to the Y's cause, and a high quality commitment to YMCA standards. 16. Represent the YMCA at community functions and in meeting of key stakeholders as needed. 17. Additional responsibilities as appropriate within the scope of the position.
