YMCAYMCA of Greater San Antonio LocationSan Antonio, TX Job Description With general guidance from the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller performs all major accounting activities and supervises the accounting team. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting. Possess or progressing towards CPA certification is preferred. Five to seven years of accounting experience with two to three in a supervisory role. Experience in a nonprofit environment is preferred. Knowledge of banks, banking systems and cash management. Employee must have working knowledge and expertise of Microsoft Office Suite software. Must have experience with or obtain proficiency within 30 days of hire on the following software systems: Blackbaud Financial Edge, Blackbaud Raiser's Edge, ActiveNet, and PowerPlan software. Ability to work with integrity, discretion and a professional approach. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions. Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative in order to work within deadlines. 10.A Texas Driver's license is required as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area. Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications, and Defensive Driving. Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: CPR Pro and First Aid. If working at a location with a pool, must also complete O2 certification. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a fast-paced office environment. Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required. Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required. Incumbent must be able to stand for long periods of time, as well as be able to use keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils. Essential Functions Hires, trains, supervises, and manages all accounting staff and responsibilities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting areas. Maintains an accounting system to accomplish the proper recording and reporting of all financial transactions that complies with all applicable laws and regulations in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Provides the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, departments, and branches with financial information, answers questions from other departments on financial information needs, and performs miscellaneous accounting projects. Supervises the functions of accounting including accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets inventory, debt service, capital projects, contribution and grant revenue funds. Ensures preparation of reconciliations for all YMCA bank accounts on a monthly basis and reconciles other general ledger accounts to subsidiary ledgers to ensure accuracy of financial records. Facilitates key functions such as annual independent audit. Develops and maintains key relationships, including relationships with banks, funding partners, and insurers. Coordinates and supervises operating cash flow management. Conducts special internal audits, accounting studies, financial analyses and cost studies as required. Works closely with IT staff, the Director of Financial Reporting & Analysis, and the Financial Quality Assurance Director to ensure systems, procedures, and controls are in place that result in the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of financial data.
