This position manages accounting functions, including cash receipts, payroll, accounts payable and general accounting. Administers approved accounting policies and procedures throughout the YMCA. Ensures preparation of complete and accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Manages the preparation of the operating and capital budget as well as the ongoing forecasting process. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting and five years of experience or more in a supervisory accounting role; experience in a nonprofit environment is preferred. Understanding of and experience in GAAP are required. Knowledge of banks, banking systems and cash management. Knowledge of and expertise with computerized accounting systems. Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and standard business software systems. Essential Functions Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions. Hires, trains, supervises and manages all accounting personnel and budgets, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general accounting areas. Maintains an accounting system to accomplish the proper recording and reporting of all operations, transactions, assets and liabilities of the YMCA for all funds. Serves as resource person to management and program personnel in all matters relating to accounting, payroll and accounts payable. Supervises or prepares reconciliations of all YMCA bank accounts on a monthly basis; ensures that all reconciling items are properly documented, researched and resolved prior to the next month-end closing. Prepare and/or review balance sheet of account reconciliations on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis for specific accounts. All reconciling items must be documented, researched and resolved. Prepares financial statements required by management, the Board, and outside agencies. Maintains records, and prepare various internal and external reports, including reports for various federal and state agencies. Maintains records and supervises the preparation of reports as required by board, funding sources, and regulatory agencies. Develops and maintains key relationships, including banks and insurers. Coordinates and supervises operating cash flow management. Conducts special internal audits, accounting studies, analyses and cost studies as required, provides recommendations. Maintain the spreadsheet for the ACA requirements up-to-date on a monthly basis. Prepare audit work papers and coordinates the annual audit performed by independent audit firm. Works closely with IT staff to ensure that computer and software systems provide accurate information and adequate internal controls. Manages the preparation of the operating and capital budget. Manages the ongoing quarterly forecasting process. Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the board of directors. Further develop human resources and administration, enhancing professional development, compensation and benefits, performance evaluation, training, recruiting and timely distribution of staff's vacation/sick day notification. Works with St. Jude House on annual House Raffle fundraiser by reconciling the accounting records on a monthly basis during the duration of the House Raffle. Lead organization through accounting software conversion through investigation of accounting software packages, preparing & training staff through conversion changes, developing and communicating conversion timeline, monitoring conversion results. Directly supervises and coaches employees in the Payroll functions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the association's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; developing, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
