This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated and cause-driven professional to work closely with the Illinois State Alliance of YMCA's Board of Directors and the 45 corporate YMCAs in Illinois. This individual will be responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic vision that considers and capitalizes upon the YMCA's brand identity, voice and cause with the unique ability to coordinate, deliver and execute statewide initiatives that further strengthens the Y's cause in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Advocacy for the Illinois YMCAs and awareness of Y leadership is a critical component of this position. Our focus areas include child safety, tracking impact and licensing, obesity prevention, encouraging healthy community collaborations, tracking our impact and increasing physical activity, healthy eating before, during and after school, and cultivating a culture of volunteerism and engagement of our members and participants in order to improve communities across the state. Addittionaly, we continue to support policy and advocacy priorities including legislation, policy and systems changes in the areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. A strong candidate will have a proven track-record in executive leadership, and coordination of autonomous but related organizations, advocacy with legislators and elected officials, strategic planning and execution, and ability to influence all to join together towards a common theme. *Please note the resume deadline is December 30, 2016 at 5PM (CST). Qualifications PREFFERED CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATES: Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited college or university. At least 5-7 years' experience in public policy, government relations and project management Has directly influenced legislators Has researched, secured and administered grants and or secured funding from foundations and other entities in total excess of $500,000 MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATES: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. At least 3 years' experience in public policy, government relations and project management. Demonstrated ability to understand, articulate, navigate, and influence the legislative process. Has researched, secured and administered grants and or secured funding from foundations and other entities. Proven track record on the ability to influence others and bring entities together to affect change. Must be professional, self-motivated, proactive, well organized and detail oriented. Must enjoy a collaborative work environment and work well with a team of CEOs and key leadership. Must possess excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills. Must have the ability to work on various duties and issues, and perform multiple tasks. Appropriately and professionally work closely with the State Alliance Chair and Steering Committee. Travel as needed across the state as assigned by the Alliance Steering Committee Commitment to the Mission of the YMCA and its Cause Familiarity with the work of the YMCA or similar not-for-profit. Essential Functions Advocacy: Act as the principal advocate for the IL State Alliance of YMCAs. Represents the YMCA in State Legislative and Agency meetings. Develops a legislative agenda in harmony with the YMCA's Mission and Cause. Utilizes and develops the grassroots strength of the YMCAs in Illinois. Works with legal counsel and lobbyist (when necessary) and other key constituents. Be the key driver of the Alliance's Public Policy Committee. Strategic Direction: Create and execute a strategic plan to achieve priority issues as developed by the Alliance. Develop strategic alliances and coalitions with internal kindred groups and like-minded state-wide organizations. Statewide Initiatives: Coordinate and execute state-wide initiatives such as Membership Reciprocity, Child Abuse Prevention, addressing childhood hunger and joint negotiations and purchasing. Communication: Consistently communicate with and visit member YMCAs in kindred group gatherings and face to face interactions; conduct regional education and awareness events; interact with the YMCA of the USA on public policy. Maintain the State Alliance web presence. Operations: Manage the day-to-day operations of the Alliance including managing the legislative, regulatory and public affairs work of the Alliance under the direction of the Alliance Board and Committees. Work with Alliance's Statewide Initiative Committees, Project Managers and Task Forces. Work with Y-USA's Resource Directors to ensure direction and accomplishments of Alliance goals. Provide Strong Fiscal Leadership: Important fiscal goals include supervising and maintaining the Alliance's operating budget, developing specialized campaigns and creative revenue streams, including the securing of grants to support statewide initiatives. Work with the Alliance Council to secure funding from all Illinois YMCAs in support of the Alliance. Watchdog: Working with the Alliance's lobbyist/public policy advocate, monitoring legislation that may have positive and or adverse effects on Illinois YMCAs and communicate issues effectively. Areas of particular interest, but not limited to, include: taxation, nonprofit issues, child care licensing and reimbursement.
