The next President/CEO must embody and lead in a manner consistent with the Christian values on which the YMCA is based. The next President/CEO will be an inclusive leader of a diverse organization as well an advocate for inclusion, fairness and justice across the diverse communities of Northwest North Carolina. Salary Range:Commensurate with experience Benefits:Retirement contribution, vacation plan, health plan and other benefits per personnel policy included Qualifications Minimum Criteria for Candidates: Accredited 4-year college degree. Master's Degree preferred. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission. Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees. Must have a proven track record of developing and strengthening community relationships. Have a demonstrated ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and the effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve. Preferred Criteria for Candidates: YMCA Organizational Leader Certification. Fiscally sound business management approach. Strategic planning and Fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants. A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $20M or more annually. Personal Characteristics: Displays Christian values and models deep faith in daily life Strong sense of ethics, fairness, and honesty Deep commitment to the social services provided by the YMCA Sound business acumen and judgment High level of comfort working with private sector executives Strong understanding of charitable and non-profit sector Entrepreneurial, transparent and collaborative leader Accepted and respected in influential circles Understanding of the role of technology in advancing the mission Strong supporter of diversity and inclusion Commitment to continuous learning Ability to communicate and relate to a diverse population Essential Functions Professional Qualities and Competencies: The board believes its new CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit him or her to achieve excellence in the following roles: Advocate the YMCA Vision within the Northwest North Carolina Service Area:It is widely recognized that the next chief executive needs to be an effective ambassador for the mission, goals, and values of the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina. The ideal candidate will serve as the champion of the Y mission externally and should be prepared to be an excellent spokesperson, have a contagious effect on others and be able to infuse mission, cause, and values into every aspect of the YMCA. The CEO must be the leader of the brand and ensure the Y has one consistent message. The next CEO must build upon successful and strategic relationships with influential leaders, members and organizations of the community with an eye toward continuing to leverage those relationships to enhance support for the Y cause. The Y is well positioned to grow and expand services to address community needs mostly as a community collaborator that will continue to build productive partnerships with other private and public entities. The CEO is the driver of this partnering as a way to facilitate the expansion of programs and services. The CEO should be a problem solver and committed to responding to social issues and community change Key competencies sought include: an understanding of the principles of collaboration, excellent communication skills, persuasiveness, and integrity. Develop and Lead the Staff Team/Build a Positive and Productive Culture:The chief executive's role in leading the staff team will be critical to his/her success. The new CEO must: recruit, retain and develop a high-performing team; possess high-level people skills; be a decision maker who listens and “walks the talk” by modeling the Christian-based YMCA character values; and be a conscious leader who knows how to identify and align people's strengths in an effort to improve the Association. Key competencies sought include: team building, strategic, visionary leadership, and staff development as well as management. Financial Development and Building a Culture of Philanthropy:The CEO needs to lead fundraising efforts, building upon a strong plan for how the association will continue to leverage its brand. The new CEO must assure that public and private resources are available to support operational and capital needs and must instill confidence, credibility, and trust in the Y with foundation leaders and major donors. Key competencies sought include: goal-setting, persuasion, closing skills, networking, and an ability to get others to support the Y's cause. Improve Operating Performance: Improving operations, resulting in a stronger balance sheet for the YMCA. Developing a plan that attracts new members and retains existing members. Developing a plan that optimizes the use and efficiency of all the YMCA's resources (people and capital). Key competencies sought include: strong understanding of operations with effective management skills in budgeting, organizational development, human resources, legal issues, risk management, etc. Provide Vision and Establish and Implement Plan:In partnership with the Board of Directors, the CEO will actively champion and promote the Y vision to attract high caliber volunteers to the board, and help lead board development efforts to ensure optimal board performance, with a specific plan to continue to add diversity to the board. Key competencies sought include: vision, strategic planning, building consensus, leadership, communication skills and CEO level experience.
